Notable animal species at Clatteringshaws include:
Roe deer, Pipistrelle bat, red kite, possible sightings of osprey, greylag geese, sandpiper, occasional oystercatcher, adder, red squirrel, buzzard, great spotted woodpecker, siskin.

Summer visitors include blackcap, willow warbler, chiffchaff, swallow.

Best in: Great all year round.

How to get there

Driving: From the west – follow the A75 towards Dumfries. Bypass Newton Stewart take a left turn onto the A712 towards New Galloway. Travel roughly 8 miles along this road passing the Wild Goat Park and Red Deer Range on your left. Continue north passing the Raiders Road Forest Drive on your right. After a couple of bends in the road the magnificent view of Clatteringshaws Loch will come into view. Clatteringshaws visitor centre is a little further along the road on the left hand side.

Driving from the east – follow the A75 towards Newton Stewart. Just after you pass Blackcraig take the next right signed A712. Travel roughly 8 miles along this road passing the Wild Goat Park and Red Deer Range on your left. Continue north passing the Raiders Road Forest Drive on your right. After a couple of bends in the road the magnificent view of Clatteringshaws Loch will come into view. Clatteringshaws visitor centre is a little further along the road on the left hand side.
