Galloway Activity Centre Loch Ken

The Galloway Activity Centre is situated at the north east end of Loch Ken.  The centre enjoys stunning views over Loch Ken and up the Glenkens, enjoyed by customers using our café, staying on our camp-site or our very new off grid eco bothies.  Just a quick boat ride from the Galloway Forestry Park there really is no better place to enjoy the scenery and wildlife. The open water and wetlands of Loch Ken and the River Dee comprise the largest freshwater body in Southern Scotland and are home to some incredible wildlife.

On or Near the Water:

The area provides established winter roosting sites for Greenland white-fronted and Icelandic greylag geese. Other bird life that have been observed include whooper swans, woodcock, snipe, goldeneye and a variety of duck on both our pond and Loch Ken itself.  If you are really lucky you might spot an otter on a Wilderness kayak trip organised by the centre.

On or Near the Shore:

Visitors will observe red kites circling above the centre looking for carrion or roosting in our wood.  You might also see great–spotted woodpeckers or the odd white barn owl.  Red squirrels have often been observed foraging in our woods along with red deer often seen on our walks available over the Torrs overlooking Loch Ken.
