Wild Spring

Spring is a magical time here in Dumfries and Galloway, the warming sunshine encouraging wildlife from its various winter lairs (including us humans).  As the land and forests shake off the fug of winter and begin to unveil their colours, and the birds and animals begin the annual rituals that ensure the survival of their species, we are busy working to show you a little of the fantastic spectacles of all scales and types that we have here.

Spring can be seen in all its renewing glory right across the region but, the following places offer particular examples of what the season is all about and the world-class natural offering we have:

  • Bluebells at Carstramon Woods near Gatehouse of Fleet
  • Coastal seabirds and cliff-top gardens of Thrift and Spring Squills on the cliffs at the Mull of Galloway, Balcary Bay, Meikle Ross and Burrowhead
  • Dawn chorus at Carstramon Woods, the Wood of Cree, Stenhouse Wood and Threave Gardens

Use the navigator bar at the side of the page to discover the range of events and other opportunities we have here in Dumfries and Galloway to get you closer to nature, to see and experience its excitement and its spectacles and to get in amongst its never ending stories.
