Red Deer in Dumfries and Galloway

Red DeerScotland’s largest mammal can be found wandering wild throughout the Galloway Forest Park hills.

Best place to see them: The Red Deer Range in the heart of the Galloway Forest Park situated on the A712 between Newton Stewart and New Galloway. The Deer Range is arguably the best place to experience this majestic animal in its natural environment.

When is best to see them: During the summer daily tours are run at the Red Deer Range, the tours enable you to come face to face with female red deer and if you’re lucky, from mid June, their calves too!  Autumn is another great time to visit and witness first hand, roaring stags as they challenge one another in the fight to become the monarch of the Deer Range!
