CAVENS - Birdwatching Weekends, 2014

Cavens Birdwatching Weekends, 2013

Spring: 12 – 14 April 2014
Autumn: 1-3 November 2014

Now into its 11th year our two day birdwatching weekends combine our intimate comfort and hospitality with daily excursions to nature reserves and wildlife hotspots in Dumfries and Galloway under the leadership and guidance of local expert Hugh Buck, a longstanding wildlife enthusiast and tour leader.

This area of south Scotland, bordering the Solway Firth is the site of one of Britain’s most spectacular birding sights – the winter flocks of the superb Barnacle Goose which can number in their thousands. Only here and on the Hebridean Island of Islay can these birds be seen in large numbers in Britain and on our weekends there is the possibility of seeing an additional 4 or more species of Geese, wild Whooper Swans, Buzzard and Red Kite, a dozen other species of waterfowl, Red Grouse, a range of wading birds and up to 50 or so other species. The area is rich in mammals including Red Squirrels which can be seen in the hotel gardens.

Our spring tour offers the sight of the geese massing ahead of their northward migration, birds in full breeding plumage, song and display and the possibility of the first summer visitors arriving. The reverse is true in autumn with the geese and other birds arriving for the winter, the trees in glorious autumn colours and, if desired, an excursion to see Red Deer at their majestic rut. And, after a great day in the great outdoors what could be more natural than enjoying good company, fine dining and life’s little luxuries back home in CAVENS

Prices below are TOTAL prices per couple for whole weekend.
Estate rooms £600 per couple, in total for the weekend
Country rooms £500 per couple, in total for the weekend

Inclusive of Dinner, accommodation and full Scottish breakfasts. Pre-dinner drinks & wine with dinner both nights.. Also included both days is a hearty packed lunch to see you through your bird watching adventures with our guide Hugh Buck.
